Notes
1678/9
This very much appears to be a holograph receipt written by Joseph Holden himself, for his signature by the shellac seal at the right foot very much resembles the hand of the main document.
The date
There are three points about the date:
- the addendum on the end of Anno is a contracted form of que which, added to the end of a word, means 'and' - in this case 'and in the Year' - but it is tautologous here because there is an ampersand at the end of the previous line;
- the contraction for Dominus would more usually be Dni rather than Dmi
- the date would be 1679 in the New Style calendar - that is 1678/9 as Old Style/New Style - check here.
